Apartheid in ons schoolsysteem is niet de oplossing
Socioloog Jaap Dronkers stelde vast dat een grote etnische diversiteit in de klas het niveau naar beneden haalt, zo meldde De Standaard dit weekend. Zijn oplossing: segregatie. Stop scholieren allemaal in mono-etnische scholen. In zulke scholen kunnen leerlingen, ongestoord door het anders-zijn van medescholieren, zich concentreren op de leerstof en halen ze bijgevolg betere resultaten. Dat is een zeer gevaarlijk discours, zeggen Gunilla de Graef van het CIMIC en Koen Stuyck van StampMedia. Samengevat tonen deze berekeningen dus dat het groeipad van de geproduceerde welvaart per inwoner zal afnemen ingeval de toename arbeidsproductiviteit niet versnelt en de werkgelegenheidsgraad niet verhoogt. Wil men én een verdere reële groei van het bbp zien én de werkloosheid terugdringen tot een aanvaardbaar niveau, dan zal het nodig zijn om relatief meer jobs te creëren samen met een uitbreiding van onze productiviteit. De creatie van jobs zal in Vlaanderen op limieten stuiten van het beschikbare arbeidsaanbod. Daarom is het des te belangrijker om – met het oog op de nood aan arbeidskrachten in de verre toekomst – de deelname aan het arbeidsproces aan te moedigen. Dat wil ook zeggen dat de Vlaamse Regering daarin moet blijven investeren, ook in tijden van crisis. De baten zullen op langere termijn onze economie ten goede komen. Analyse de l'impact de différents schémas théoriques d'une taxe routière en Belgique
Ce document présente différentes politiques de prix et analyse leurs effets sur le transport, l'environnement et le bien-être de la société à l'aide du modèle PLANET. L'internalisation des coûts externes permet d'ameliorer nettement le bien-être mais est difficile à mettre en oeuvre à court terme. Afin d'ameliorer le bien-être, la taxation routière imposée exclusivement sur les camions doit se faire en différenciant le niveau de la taxation selon la période du déplacement. L'extension de la taxe routière aux camionnettes permet d'améliorer le bien-être, en évitant le transfert d'une partie du transport de marchandises des camions vers les camionnettes. La généralisation de la taxe routière à l'ensemble des véhicules routiers (camions, camionnettes et voitures personnelles) améliore fortement le bien-être, la congestion et la vitesse moyenne sur la route. Toutefois, elle provoque une très forte hausse de la demande de transport pour le rail et le BTM (Bus-Tram-Métro), difficilement soutenable étant donné les infrastructures existantes. La généralisation de la taxe routière à l'ensemble des véhicules combinée à la suppression des subsides pour les transports publics permet d'éviter les problèmes potentiels de gestion du trafic ferroviaire et en BTM. L'évolution du coût unitaire du travail en belgique de 1996 à 2008
L’évolution des coûts unitaires du travail (CUT) a un impact majeur sur la compétitivité-prix d’une économie. Le coût unitaire du travail est défini comme le coût salarial nécessaire à la production d’une unité de valeur ajoutée, c’est-à-dire de la part de la production d’un secteur d’activité réalisée en Belgique. Des travaux précédents du Bureau fédéral du Plan ont montré que cette évolution influence non seulement les performances du pays en termes de commerce extérieur et donc le solde de la balance courante, mais influence aussi la place relative de l’économie belge dans le marché européen que ce soit en termes de valeur ajoutée ou de production.

“Bientôt en voiture électrique, Simone ?”
On parle beaucoup ces derniers temps des véhicules électriques (VE). Deux événements récents ont contribué à stimuler cette technologie : l’adoption du paquet énergie-climat ainsi que la crise financière et économique. Cette crise a débouché sur l’élaboration d’un Plan européen pour la relance économique, lequel propose une initiative visant à promouvoir des technologies plus propres dans le secteur automobile. Se basant sur des études récentes, le Bureau fédéral du Plan a réalisé une première analyse quantitative du développement des véhicules électriques et des incidences que la politique climatique pourrait avoir sur ce développement. Il a également mesuré l’impact de plusieurs taux de pénétration des véhicules électriques sur la future demande en électricité.

Tax Freedom Day 2010 falls on 8 June for the second year in a row
Based on the latest data from the Federal Planning Bureau, this date falls again, for the second year in a row already now, on 8 June, while it felt on 10 June for three years before that. This means that despite all changes that were supposed or rumoured to reduce taxes like “personal tax reductions”, the “notional interest deduction”, the “VAT grouping”, the various “tax deductions for individuals” and so on, the overall tax burden in Belgium has remained stable.
Unfortunately, the move forward of last year that was consolidated this year is not an effect of a reduction of our substantial tax burden. Rather, the shift forward by 2 days is merely the result of the mathematical effect of the calculation method which is being influenced by the current economic downturn.
This is the fifth year in a row that we have computed Belgium’s “Tax Freedom Day”, the day on which the inhabitants of the country truly start working for themselves – all productive work up to that date having been needed to pay the burden of taxes.

attempts to elicit this type of religious behaviour towards “Theoi” in the laboratory. The theory
we test is that, when faced with uncertainty, individuals attempt to engage in a reciprocal
contract with the source of uncertainty by sacrificing towards it. In our experiments, we create
the situation whereby individuals face an uncertain economic payback due to “Theoi” and we
allow participants to sacrifice towards this entity. Aggregate sacrifices amongst participants
are over 30% of all takings, increase with the level of humanistic labelling of Theoi and
decrease when participants share information or when the level of uncertainty is lower. The
findings imply that under circumstances of high uncertainty people are willing to sacrifice
